Born to Walk is a series of workshops exploring healthy feet and the mechanics of walking
This Session’s Theme: Let’s Twist again!
A look at rotation in all the parts of us from the waist down. How do they help or hinder our everyday movements?
From our waist to our toes, all the parts of our body not only need the ability to flex and extend but also to rotate as well! But how much rotation/twisting is beneficial? Rotation is often something parts of us do in order to compensate for the limited range of motion in other parts (ie: tight/shortened muscles). Unfortunately, those compensations leave us walking around with less efficiency and more risk of losing our balance.
In this session:
we’ll look at mobilizing all those rotating parts
We’ll explore our own walking patterns to see where we might be using rotation unnecessarily
Then, we’ll practice ways to create more stability and a better distribution of movement throughout the body while walking.
Plus!!! : we’ll get a chance to play with my rotational boards (yay!) and learn how unstable surfaces can actually teach our brain-body patterns to function more optimally.
