Let’s bring awareness to principles of body alignment and how the habitual use or disuse of our various parts are affecting how we move with everyday activities such as sitting and walking. Each session will focus on one or two poses of yoga as the palette for exploring the movement of our body and offer varying cues to illuminate how to move more of our parts in healthy ways both in our practice and throughout our daily lives.
Coming back for our second session!
In this session We’re focusing on shoulders!
Modern life requires very little of our arms. In comparison to what our ancestors needed to do (foraging, crawling, climbing, carrying, lifting, even swinging), we barely use our arms! When we then approach a yoga (or other exercise) practice, it’s easy to get in the habit of recruiting our backs and necks as a way to compensate for unconditioned shoulders.
Let’s look at how to bring better health to our shoulders through awareness of alignment and restorative exercise principles applied to our yoga practice! We’ll look at some common poses such as plank, side plank and downward dog, and also explore ways to move more of our arms in daily life.
